Wayne Barksdale was born to Thomas & Leona Barksdale in Taft, CA. Soon after, he moved to Bakersfield where he started his family. In 1956, he married his wife Peggy Anne Coleman at their family church, Christ the King. Wayne was devoted to his family, a true patriot, and constitutionalist. He was a man of many trades. A true outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, pan for gold, and vacation with his family. With his brother-in-law Elvin Hill, he served as Scoutmaster of Troop 410. He was affectionately known by his scouts as "Uncle Wayne." Wayne was a business owner, brick layer, carpenter, route salesman, and held various other jobs.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy. Together they had four children, Diana (Greg) Meyer, Todd (Clare) Barksdale, Lisa Poole, and Jill (Bob) Jefferson. Wayne is loved by his 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, niece, and nephews. He will be missed by his brother Larry, and sister Barbara. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Leona Barksdale, his sister, Gwen Krauter, parents-in-law, Glen and Margaret Coleman, and sister-in-law Norma (Jake) Carpenter.
Services will be held at Christ the King Church, 1800 Bedford Way on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Rosary begins at 9 am, Funeral Mass at 9:30 am, officiated by Monsignor Frost. Burial services will take place at Hillcrest Memorial on 9101 Kern Canyon Road. Reception to follow at Christ the King Catholic Church.
