V.L. Dugan Weaver

V.L. Dugan Weaver
October 5, 1931 — February 18, 2021
Dugan passed at home in the arms of his devoted
wife, Jean. He was born to Roy and Bertha Weaver in
Greenfield, Oklahoma. He moved with his family to
California in 1945. He resided in Bakersfield for 65
years.
Dugan had a strong work ethic which served him
well throughout his working career. He worked
many years in the trucking industry: driver,
manager and owner/operator. He established
Dugan's Club in Oildale in 1979, which was family
owned for 35 years. He retired a second time after
driving a motorcoach for Orange Belt for 32 years,
but that wasn't enough. He and Jean volunteered at
the Rasmussen Senior Center where he cajoled with
both seniors and staff. He served as Grand Marshal
in the Oildale Parade in 2019.
Dugan enlisted in the Navy in 1950, and was later reassigned to the Marines
where he served as a medical corpsman. He served in Korea for 14 months and
was there when the cease-fire took effect on July 27, 1953. He was honored as an
elder warrior by the Cherokee Nation.
He is survived by his wife, Jean and first wife Wilma, daughters Nietra
Thomas (Jerry), Marlene Miller (Doug), son Keith Weaver (Denise),
stepdaughters Jeri Leigh Bowen and Jeanine Kivett, eight grandchildren, nine
great grandchildren, and sister Mary (James) Hamilton.
Dugan will always be remembered for his generosity, caring nature, love of
family and cribbage. Most of all we were very proud of him.
