Timothy Aymar Cater
December 3, 1951 – September 27, 2025
Timothy Aymar Cater passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved wife and children due to complications with Lewy Body Dementia.
Born on December 3, 1951 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Tim was the oldest of four brothers. Growing up, he participated in many sports and developed a real love for golf. At the age of 17, Tim came to California to pursue education, graduating from UCLA with a degree in mathematics and a teaching credential.
Shortly after arriving in California, Tim met Janet, his loving wife of 49 years. Their dating years were filled with football games, beach trips, homework, and outings with his AGO fraternity. They grew in their Christian faith together.
After graduation, Tim accepted a job as a math teacher at South High School, Kern High School District, where he coached basketball, golf, and cultivated a lifelong passion for teaching mathematics. He was asked to chair the math department at Stockdale High School when it opened in 1991. He spent 22 years at Stockdale High until he retired in 2013. During his time at Stockdale, he developed a very successful AP Calculus program and coached a competitive golf team.
Tim and Janet’s home was always one of warmth, love, and confident support. They raised three children, Kristen, Daniel, and Jason, who are blessed with a firm foundation of faith, integrity, and love for others. He was a caring father and pursued his children’s passions as his own: be it coaching basketball at Stockdale Christian or BFC, sharing his love of education, or jumping in with both feet, tools in hand, to complete an overly ambitious home improvement project.
After retirement, Tim and Janet committed their time to the service of others, through the LIFT ministry serving the Oildale community through afterschool programs, community dinners, and direct care ministries to those in need.
Tim is survived by his wife Janet, children Kristen Lewis (Jordan), Daniel Cater (Monica), and Jason Cater (Sandy), grandchildren Sydney Lewis, Samantha Lewis, Simone Cater, Noelle Cater, and Orion Cater, brothers Jeff Cater, Doug Cater, and Andy Cater, and his mother-in-law Shirley Cron.
The Cater Family would like to thank our adopted family and Tim’s caregivers at Jasmine Garden, for the love and support provided to our whole family during this difficult time.
Tim’s deep faith was evident in the way he loved and served those around him with humility. We mourn our loss and celebrate his life. We are reminded of 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
The Cater family welcomes all to a celebration of life to be held at Valley Baptist Church on Monday October 27th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Bus Ministry at Valley Baptist Church in honor of Tim's commitment to the children of Oildale.
