Ted Littlejohns

Ted was born in San Francisco on May 31, 1925. He was raised in Oakland where he was the Head Yell Leader of Oakland High, Class of 1943. He joined the Army Air Corp in August of 1943 and trained as a bombardier , but did not see combat action before WWII ended. Discharged in February of 1946, he began studies a UC Berkeley and joined Kappa Sig fraternity.

He married Caroline Hildebrand, the love of his life, on June 30, 1947. They were married for 64 years. Their daughter Cheryl (born in 1949) is a graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in Botany and currently the CEO of a construction company in Monterey, CA. Their son Trey (born 1953) is a graduate of Claremont and Cal Poly and is serving as a prison chaplain at Jamestown, CA. Ted is survived by five grandchildren Whitney Meyer (Ethan), Tyler Brandt (Katie), Bryce Littlejohns (Amanda), Drew Littlejohns (Kasey), Laura McCafferty(Matt).

Ted was called back into active military service during the Korean War by the Air Force in April of 1951. He saw combat duty flying 50 bombing missions in North Korea after six months of training in Langley, VA, where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Ted was an adjuster in the insurance industry before becoming a Real Estate Broker. He owned Kern City Real Estate and retired in 1991. He then became the Travel Chairman for a local SIRS (Sons in Retirement) group. He and Caroline enjoyed making new friends and travelling extensively throughout the world with this group for nine years. They shared in a dozen cruises, travelled throughout Canada and the United States and visited such places as China, Australia, New Zealand and Europe … not to mention South Korea. Ted was a regular at the Godfather Coffee Club on Mondays and Fridays.

A celebration of life will be held at the home of the Littlejohns on April 7, 2012 between 3 and 5 PM.

We would like to thank Hoffman Hospice for the outstanding dedication and service to Ted in his last months. The last weeks were made especially peaceful with the special attention to his comfort and the support to the family Caroline would also like to thank Cheryl and Trey for the support and constant companionship .
