d. April 12, 2023

Bakersfield

Stephen Anthony Shepherd, 69, was born on December 31, 1953, in Oildale, California, to Gene and Norma Shepherd. He passed away at his home in Bakersfield, California, on April 12th after a long, stubborn battle with cancer.  Steve, a 1972 graduate of South High School, made his life and work in Bakersfield.

Predeceased by his wife Kelly, he is survived by Kelly’s daughter Amber and their son Garrett (Amanda), along with his older children Shane (Janelle), Aimee (Aaron), Beau (Tisha), and Ashley (Steve), and their mother Cindy. He is survived by his brother, Dennis (Lorna) and preceded in death by his sisters, Carol and Shirley. Steve was also blessed to have many grandchildren.

A master mechanic, Steve’s love of cars was evident from the time he was a young teen, and he turned that talent into his life’s work. He owned car repair businesses for over 40 years, opening his first business, Shepherd's Automotive in his early twenties and later establishing his current business, Advanced European Automotive, which is still in operation. Steve was known for his exceptional commitment to providing top-notch service to his many loyal customers.

In addition to his successful career, Steve will be remembered for his love of NASCAR and Harley motorcycles, and his motorcycle trips to Sturgis and Colorado. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren and cherished spending time with his family; they brought him much happiness.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on Friday, May 12th, at 11 AM, at the Bakersfield City Firefighters Hall located at 7320 Wible Rd.
