Richard King Newman III, 68, passed away peacefully at Bakersfield Redwood Senior Living facility on Friday, December 16, 2022 of respiratory failure. He was born April 9, 1954 in Taft, California to Ruth and Richard Stubby Newman Jr.

He met his future wife, Nondus (McArthur), while both were involved doing theatre at Bakersfield Community Theatre. They dated for four years before he asked her to marry him. June 29, 1979 Richard and Nondus were married on Catalina Island. Later they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple for time and all eternity. They lived in Bakersfield, California until 1994, then moved to Greeley, Colorado and lived there until 2003, then moved to Cedar City, Utah.

Richard loved the theatre and would do small and large parts to enjoy time on the stage. He had a great voice for musical theatre. Richard and Nondus moved back to Bakersfield in 2007.

Richard is survived by his brother Jeffrey Newman of Bakersfield and sisters Nancy Kovacevich of Santa Rosa, Mary Disharoon of Petaluma. Children: Richard King Newman IV and Joseph Newman of Broomfield, Colorado; and three grandsons.

A viewing will be held Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 6-7pm at Alma Funeral Home, 2130 E California Ave. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10:30 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd.

In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you go see a local play. Nothing beats a good musical.
