Morris Eugene Harvey
2/25/1928 to 12/1/2012

Generous, grateful, kind, thoughtful, hardworking, and a quiet man of faith describes Morris. Born in Grand Junction, Colorado to Charles and Norma Harvey, he was the older of their two children. Morris graduated from Mesa High School (in Grand Junction), served in the United States Air Force for six years, and then earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. While attending the University, he was involved with the Wesley Foundation where he met his true love, Mary Jane (Howe) Harvey. Morris worked for the National Bureau of Standards (in Boulder) for many years until he and his family moved to Southern California where he worked for the Naval Sea Command and eventually retired. Later in life, Morris and Mary Jane moved to Bakersfield, California where he passed away peacefully at home.

Morris enjoyed rock hounding, cutting and polishing geodes, going to gem and mineral shows, taking road trips, building rockets with his children, fixing cars and things around the house, hiking, and being with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane; four children—Norma (Rusty Rhodes), Charles, Don, Barbara (Leigh Labrecque); seven grandchildren—Kara Kitano, Kami Whitten, Byron Rhodes, Arin Babbick, Sharyna Labrecque, Anthony Labrecque, and Cassia Labrecque; six great grandchildren—Isaiah Whitten, Kansas Whitten, Georgia Ann Whitten, Ellie Whitten, Kyojuro Kitano, and David Babbick; brother-in-law—Henry Howe (Mary Seaworth Howe); nephews—Mark Lucas, Oren Howe, and Chris Howe; and nieces Deb Howe and Tavia Howe. Morris is preceded in death by his parents, sister—Faye Lucas (Ray Lucas-also deceased), daughter—Diana Harvey, niece—Connie Lucas, and great granddaughter—Jordan Whitten.
