On Wednesday, February 21 Heavenly Father called home one of his best as Mary Katherine Darnell returned to the Celestial. She was greatly beloved by the valiants who sat vigil and also the many abroad who were present in spirit at her passing.
Katherine was born in Seminole, OK to Eugene and Mary (Dice) Whitfield. She moved with her family to Bakersfield,CA in June 1961.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Larry Darnell, and children Delcie (Don) Hood of NV; Deana (Doug) Frederick of CA; D. Allen Cheesman; Paul Whitfield (Danette) of CA; Gary Whitfield (Tami) of CA; Darryl Darnell of HI; and Debbie (Darren) Henry of CA. She was proud to count 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She worked in manufacturing, retail sales, and accounting. Later, she provided daycare service, for friends and family alike, where all were welcome to call her Grandma. She was an active member of the LDS church and worked for 30 years as receptionist at the L.A. Temple.
The family sends thanks to staff at Adventist Health Bakersfield for their kind service to our beloved Katherine. Her departure was peaceful in large part to their work.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10AM at the LDS Chapel at 851 Monica Street, Bakersfield. Viewing will be at 9AM. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery following services.
