Geraldine (Jerry) Meistrell passed away at home on March 28 with her granddaughter Brie Ana, her great-granddaughter Katelyn and her grandson-in law, James in attendance. Jerry was 98 years old. She is survived by her children Stephen, Diana, and Kathleen.
Born in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, Jerry moved with her husband and four children to California in 1951. The family lived in Corcoran, California for several years moving to Bakersfield in 1954.
Jerry raised six children including Charles, Patrick and Daniel who predeceased her. She went to Bakersfield College when she was 55, earning her RN degree and awarded the “bronze shoes”. She worked at local hospitals for over 10 years.
Jerry loved to travel and with her second husband, Don, journeyed around the country. During her life she visited 46 states and Canada. She also traveled to places in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Central America.
Jerry was a special person with a positive outlook on life. She was an advisor, a listener and had an inner strength, seeing her family through difficulties and trying times. She loved her roses, her ice cream, her bingo, and “playing” the stock market.
A remembrance and ash scattering will take place on her birthday, June 3rd in San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, Jerry would like donations to go the nursing program at Bakersfield College https://www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/foundation/donations. Please refer to Geraldine Meistrell and select “other” under the donations selection.
