Gary A. Music

September 27, 1955 — October 18, 2025

Caliente

Gary A Music was born in Bakersfield on September 27, 1955, where he grew up, had an adventurous childhood, attended school, and graduated from West High. Gary worked in agriculture for the majority of his life. He was well known and well respected in the Kern County farming community and the watermelon community. Over the past 30 years, with his wife Shae, they built and worked together to run their business, Ridge-Sweet Melon Growers. The seasonality of the business allowed Gary and Shae the opportunity to spend the off season traveling and visiting fun places. They loved the ocean as well as the mountains and desert.

Gary was a private person but meticulous with his thoughts and always found a way to include humor in his conversations. He was always the voice of reason; the calm in our storm. Gary was very handy. He always had a project going on – sometimes several at one time! He loved spending time in his shop – fixing, creating, and taking every opportunity to start a new hobby.

Gary passed away unexpectedly on October 18, 2025, at Hoffmann Hospice. The staff was amazing and took such good care of Gary in his final few days. He passed into the arms of our Lord and Savior with his wife by his side. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hoffmann Hospice in Gary's name.

Gary is survived by his loving wife Shae and her extended Gholson family, who all loved Gary very much. Gary is also survived by his beloved Mother Rachel and her extended family, who will miss him dearly. Gary leaves behind many family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many business associates and life-long friends – a true testament to the man he was….trustworthy, reliable, and full of an overwhelming amount of integrity.

Per Gary’s wishes, there will be no funeral. As you know, he did not like crowds or being the center of attention. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 6, 11–2, at New Life Church NW, 1300 Jewetta, where friends and loved ones can gather to share stories and their love and appreciation for our gentle giant who was loved by so many.

Shae would ask that in Gary’s honor, you enjoy a beautiful sunrise – he was always an early riser! – lend a hand to a friend or neighbor in need, as he always did, and remember that kindness always wins!
