April 28, 1949 – June 10, 2026
Gary Chin, age 77, of Bakersfield, California, passed away on June 10, 2026.
Gary was born on April 28, 1949, in Bakersfield, California, to Ne Toy and Isabel Chin (Lee). Bakersfield was his home throughout his life, and it was where he built lasting memories with the people who knew and loved him.
After high school, Gary enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served as an engine mechanic. His service began in 1969, and during his time in the Navy, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Award, and a medal for his service during the Vietnam Campaign. In 1973, Gary was honorably discharged.
Following his service in the Navy, Gary continued using his skill and dedication as a mechanic for the railroad. He was hardworking, dependable, and took pride in the work he did. Outside of work, Gary enjoyed the simple things in life, especially fishing, spending time outdoors, and being surrounded by family.
Gary will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love for those close to him, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of others. He had a way of making people feel like family, and the relationships he built over the years were a true reflection of the kindness and loyalty he carried with him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ne Toy and Isabel Chin (Lee), and his brother, Donald. He is survived by his brother, Marvin Chin; his sisters, Karolyn Sheehan and Diane Hance; his daughter, Tammy Brown; his grandchildren, Allison Carter and Branden McCay; and his great-grandchildren, Harrison Carter and Samantha Carter.
Gary is also survived by the family he lovingly embraced as his own: Sandy Hall, Ricky Bolen, and Donnie Bolen; grandchildren, Alysa Hall, Taylor Hall, and Dallas Hall; and great-grandchildren, Phoenix Rinker, Martha Hall, Sylas Santana, and Calliope Santana.
A private celebration of life will be held by his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary's name to a charity that serves veterans, such as Honor Flight Kern County, Equine Heart Connection, or the Wounded Heroes Fund. Gary will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
