Bakersfield – Edward Pat Ash, 88, peacefully passed away in his sleep at home on July 20, 2025. Many of his friends and family visited in his last week to say their goodbyes, remembering all the good times they shared.
Born on September 17, 1936, at Kern General Hospital, Ed was raised in Wasco with 6 other siblings. After graduating from Wasco High School, he joined the Army, serving from 1955 to 1958. His basic training was at Fort Ord, followed by several duty stations in the Midwest and the East Coast. He spent most of his tour in South Korea with a month in Japan. Ed began the next chapter of his life as an electrician's apprentice. He worked for AC Electric, McKee Electric, and for his brother Harold before starting his own company (Ash Electric) in 1979, officially retiring in February 2024.
Dad was a talkative, happy-go-lucky man who never met a stranger, and he remained adventurous throughout his life, from deep sea fishing off the Avila coasts to flying ultralights in Kern County. He was a bowler, a golfer, a ballroom dancer, and a card player. Dad loved his dogs and cats. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Phyllis (Eskew) Ash, who passed in 2012. Theirs was a marriage of 53 years. Ed leaves behind son Pat (Connie), daughter Shelley, son Dan (Bridget), daughter Pam (Robert), 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, an older sister, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad's Visitation (Aug. 5, 6-8:00 PM) and Funeral (Aug. 6, 9:00 AM) will be held at Kern River Family Mortuary. Military Honors will follow at 10:30 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
