Dorothy Grace Hengtgen born November 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Emil and Grace Grodotz, completed her long and valiant battle with Alzheimer's disease on August 3, 2022 in Bakersfield, California.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Brian Hengtgen, former husband Frank Hengtgen, brother Robert Grodotz, and sister Linda Johnson.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Melanie, son Jeffrey (Linda), grandsons Nicholas (Breanna), and Tyler Hengtgen, and her beloved great granddaughters Zoe and Kaisley Hengtgen.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Emblem Club #186 serving as president five different times, once each decade from 1960 - 2000. She was a member of the First Congregational Church for over 50 years, serving on many committees and singing in the church choir every Sunday. After working for 35 years and retiring from the U.S.D.A. Cotton Division, Dorothy began a second career at the Kern Adult Literacy Council working for 11 years.

Many thanks to Chito and Luz, devoted and gracious caregivers to “Mama Dorothy” for her last two and a half years.
