Darline Moore
(May 19,1927- February 7, 2017)

The oldest of four children, Darline Deloris was born May 19, 1927 to Vern Virgil and Iona Adeline Olinger in Liberal, Kansas. Three siblings soon followed her birth: Carl, Catherine and William. Having spent her early years in Kansas, the family later moved to Colorado and then on to Southern California. She graduated from Montebello High School and became an operator and then supervisor at Bell Telephone Company. It was during this time that a high school friend, Jim Moore, introduced her to his older brother, Curtis, who, when he returned from serving in the Marine Corps after World War II, proposed and married her on February 28, 1947. Together, they served in ministry at Bell Gardens Christian Church while Curtis attended Bible seminary. Three children soon followed: Stephen, Adina and David.

With her husband and family, Darline served at Norwalk Christian Church in Norwalk, CA, Golden Valley Church of Christ in San Bernardino, CA and Ming Avenue Christian Church in Bakersfield, CA (now Christ’s Church of the Valley). As her passion was working with children, she directed Chilcren’s Church, taught Sunday school classes and Christian Basics for Children. She also was involved in women’s and prayer ministries.

After her children went to college, Darline became a secretary for the Education Department at the new campus of California State University Bakersfield. She worked in this position for 20 years as both college and staff grew and retired receiving glowing reports from those for whom she worked.

On February 7, 2017 at the age of 89, Darline peacefully passed into eternity surrounded by members of her family. She joins her husband, family members and friends who have gone before and whom she longed to see. Her 3 children, Steve, Adina and David and their families, which include 9 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, her sister Catherine Dodd and brother William Olinger, survive her.

A memorial service for Darline will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Christ’s Church of the Valley (13701 Stockdale Hwy, Bakersfield, CA). It will be officiated by great nephew Tommy Nixon. Funeral arrangements were made by Kern River Family Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Solidarity, P.O. Box 220 Placentia, CA 92871 (www.solidarityrising.org), a Christian outreach ministry to kids in low-income communities which is directed by Tommy Nixon.
