Colleen M. Pitts - Bailey

January 23, 1930 — February 14, 2024

Bakersfield

My Daddy’s valentine was returned to him February 14th 2024 after a 54 year wait. Mom went home in the early afternoon that day after a visit from a few of her beloved children. Colleen Mabel O’Farrell was born on January 23rd 1930 to Leonard and Mabel O’Farrell in Bakersfield, California. She grew up with her only sibling Eleanor in a loving home built by their daddy on 28th street here in Bakersfield. She attended local schools and graduated in 1947 from Kern County High School; renamed Bakersfield High  School in 1945. Mom was always a kind, trusting, and happy child, keeping those qualities throughout her life. All of us children have fond memories of being wakened in the morning to a cheerful mom smiling and singing fun, silly songs like “Three Little Fishies”. At the age of fourteen, mom met her forever true love, Jerry Lee Pitts and were married

October 3rd 1948. Mom and Dad became parents to five children and did their best to raise them in a happy and loving home. Mom developed many talents in her life; most notably her artistic abilities. She drew pen and pencil sketches, animated drawings, but oil painting was perhaps her most favorite and professional looking form of art. She truly loved all of God's precious animals. She had a unique ability to capture the character and nature of animals through their eyes. She loved painting animal’s eyes. The manager of the Hungry Hunter restaurant purchased one of her paintings of a tiger and hung it in the restaurant. We were all proud of her talents. Mom is survived by her sister Eleanor Skoglund, children Kathleen Sweo, Steven Pitts, Glen Pitts, Gregory Pitts, Susan Williams, and their spouses, fifteen grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren. She touched the lives of many and was loved by all who knew her.

Memorial Services will beheld at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 851 Monica St 93306. February 24th 2024 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.  The attire for mom’s memorial service will be “nice casual”
