LIFFORD RALPH THOMPSON
September 8, 1944 April 5, 2024
Clifford Ralph Thompson was born on September 8, 1944 in Berkeley, California to parents Clifford and Ruby Thompson. He came to Bakersfield, CA as a young man and finished high school at Bakersfield High School. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force, and that was the beginning of his military service.
He married his first wife Carol Manzer and have 2 sons, Randy and Steven Thompson. After his 4 years of service, he began his lifelong career with PG&E.
He later went on to marry and spend nearly 40 years with his second wife Cherrel McGowan, who had 2 daughters Lynette and Kari Siler whom he raised as his own.
In 2007 he retired after 40 years with PG&E and began spending most of his time in Quail Valley where he had made a lot of friends in previous years. Life on the creek was his special place where he helped quite a few of his friends build decks for their trailers. Not to mention all the get-togethers for potlucks and all of the fun stuff that happened up there. It truly was his favorite place, where friends and family would come to visit often.
On April 5, 2024 we lost a really great man. He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ruby Thompson, and his son Steven.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Alissa Thompson, daughter-in-law Candy Thompson, brother Larry and Jodie Thompson, sister Cathy and Al Mitchell, sister Sandra and Terry Cope, and youngest sister April Sager. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Services will be held promptly at 12:30pm at the Bakersfield National Cemetery in Arvin, CA on May 6, 2024. It is where he wanted to be laid to rest and its a perfect place for a man who loved God and his country.
As you lay sleeping in your bed God softly kissed your cheek and said, My child please come with me, I've come to take you home, your job is finally done. I need a special angel, you are the chosen one. Take a deep and final breath as I release your soul, watch over those who hold you dear. Memories treasured dearly will help ease the pain, losing you was hard to bear, and tear drops left a stain. Now you are our angel each step of the way, and in the hearts of many, that's where you will stay. We love you dad.
