Ann Carroll (Chamberlain) Stewart

May 16, 1930-August 9, 2020

Ann died on August 9, 2020 at home and in the company of loving family members in Forresthill, California as was her wish. She was born on May 16, 1930 to Josiah and Geneva Chamberlain. The youngest of 9 children, she was born and raised in Orderville, Utah and always had a great love for the mountains, especially the wild flowers and red cliffs of Zion National Park near her little hometown. An excellent student, she graduated from Dixie Jr.College in Saint George,Utah & later completed a BA degree at Cal State Bakersfield. She met her future husband, Paul Harold Stewart, at Dixie College; they were married in the Saint George Temple on May 27, 1950 and shared 70 years. They worked & sacrificed together as he completed a Bachelors & Dental degree in California, then spent 4 adventurous years in Alaska, due to Paul’s military service. Returning to California in the hot summer of 1959, they raised 7 children and lived in Bakersfield for the next 60 years, except for 2 years spent in Toronto, Canada serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Paul, and children Susanne Stewart (Grant’s wife), Carolyn Stewart (McCauley), Robert Stewart & wife (Candie), Pamela Hootman & husband (Jerry), Cheryl Smotherman & husband (Chuck), and Debra Farnsworth & husband (Heber). Her posterity also includes a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. Ann was preceded in death by her six siblings and sons (William) Grant Stewart & Matthew Lynn Stewart. She was a talented seamstress, writer & gardener. However, her greatest love was devoted to the Lord (she served countless hours in callings and in the Los Angeles Temple), and to her family. She was always willing to open up her heart & home to family. A special thank you to Robert & Candie Stewart who made many sacrifices to share their home & hearts with Mom and Dad for the past 18 months so they could stay together. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Kern River Family Mortuary (6-8pm), for friends & family. Graveside & memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Greenlawn SW but are for family only, due to Covid19 restrictions.
