Donald or Don as some knew him passed away on September 12,
2016. Don was born in Reno Nevada on February 9, 1943
to Regina and Donald Thompson Sr before moving to
Bakersfield at a very young age. He attended Standard
School and then North High. After graduating High School he
joined the US Army, and served his country proudly in
Vietnam for two tours as a Crew Chief with the 101st
Airborne Division, upon returning stateside he was stationed
at many bases throughout the US, and four years in
Germany. After leaving the Army he embarked on a
career as a Surgical Tech, working at various hospitals,
including Kern Medical Center before retiring in 2013. He
made many friends while working at KMC.

He was a big Condors fan, having bought season tickets since
moving back to Bakersfield in 2002. He often joined
other fans on the smoking patio at the Rabobank during
breaks to discuss the team.

He supported the Bakersfield Shockerz youth travel baseball
team, who his grandson played for, earning the title from
the team and parents GPS (Grand Pa Shocker). The team
will sorely miss him.

Don is survived by son’s Donald III and Mike from
Bakersfield, daughter in law Donnetta, grandkids Donald IV,
Trevor, Meghan and an unborn great granddaughter. He is also
survived by a sister Marilyn, along with several nieces and
nephews.

Viewing will be held Thursday September 29 2016 at the Kern
River Mortuary located on North Chester from 6:00pm to 9:00pm

Services will be held on Friday September 30th 10am
at Christ the King church 1800 Bedford Wy, 93308, he will
then be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Arvin
California at 1:15pm with full military honors

A celebration of life will be held following the graveside
service at 9308 Etchart Road Bakersfield California.
